How to set up a kitchen display on a tablet

What you need

• Your KalasOS admin login.
• A tablet with a recent version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari.
• An internet connection in the kitchen, and a mobile hotspot as backup.
• An email address for the kitchen user.

Steps

   Create kitchen stations

   In the admin, open POS Settings and find Kitchen stations. Type a name such as Kitchen or Bar in the "New station, e.g. Grill" box and choose Add. Stations are shared by every location, and the kitchen display gives each station its own column.

   Assign menu items to stations

   Open Menu, edit an item, and pick its station in the "Kitchen station" select. Repeat for each item. Items with no station wait in an unrouted queue, where the kitchen can send them to a station.

   Invite a kitchen user

   Open Staff and choose Invite Staff. Enter the email address, tick the Kitchen role and the location, and send the invite. KalasOS emails a one-time activation link, and the user sets their own password when they open it.

   Log in on the tablet

   On the tablet, open https://<venue>.kalasos.com/login, with your venue's subdomain in place of <venue>, and log in as the kitchen user. KalasOS opens the home screen; choose Kitchen to open the kitchen display.

   Optional: open kitchen tickets automatically

   If the kitchen also wants paper tickets, open POS Settings and turn on "Open the KOT after Confirm Order" under Bills & Kitchen Tickets. Confirming an order on the cashier or waiter screen then opens its kitchen order ticket as a PDF in a new tab on that device, ready to print from the browser on 80 mm or 58 mm paper.

   Keep a backup connection

   The kitchen display needs an internet connection. If it drops, the screen keeps the tickets it last loaded but cannot update them. Keep a mobile hotspot ready and switch the tablet to it until the connection returns.
