Self-order kiosk
Self-order kiosk software for cafés and restaurants
KalasOS turns a tablet or phone into a self-order kiosk. Guests browse your menu, choose dine-in or takeaway, and send the order straight to the cashier and kitchen. Each guest gets a customer number and can follow the order as it is prepared.
Ordering
- Menu by category, with photos, prices, ingredients and prep time.
- Dine-in at a table, or takeaway.
- Optional pay-first: guests choose cash or QR, and the cashier confirms payment before the kitchen starts.
- Otherwise orders wait for the cashier to confirm them, or confirm automatically. You choose per location.
After the order
- Each guest gets a customer number.
- The confirmation screen follows the order live as the kitchen works on it.
Your brand, your rules
- The kiosk shows your venue name, logo and colours.
- Turn guest ordering on or off per location.
- It runs on your venue's own subdomain, such as yourcafe.kalasos.com, and can be installed to a tablet's home screen.
What you need
Kiosk, waiter, cashier and kitchen screens all need a connection. Keep a mobile hotspot as backup.
| Item | Status | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Internet connection | Required | Every screen needs one. A mobile hotspot works as backup. |
| Phone, tablet or PC | Required | Any device with a recent version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari. |
| Printer | Optional | Bills and kitchen tickets open as PDFs sized for 80 mm or 58 mm receipt paper. Print them from the browser's print dialog. |
| Card terminal | Not supported | Payments are recorded as cash or QR. |
| Cash drawer | Not supported | No cash drawer connection. |
| Direct thermal printing (ESC/POS) | Not supported | Printing goes through the browser, not a printer driver. |
Questions
Do I need special kiosk hardware?
No. Any tablet or phone with a recent browser and an internet connection works. There is no proprietary terminal to buy and nothing to install.
Can guests pay at the kiosk?
With pay-first turned on, guests choose cash or QR, and the cashier confirms the payment before the order goes to the kitchen. KalasOS records the payment; card payments at the kiosk are not supported.
What happens if the internet drops?
No. Every KalasOS screen needs an internet connection. If it drops, screens keep what they last loaded, but new orders and status changes fail until it returns. Keep a mobile hotspot ready as a backup.
Can I turn the kiosk off during busy hours?
Yes. Guest ordering is a per-location switch. When it is off, only staff can place orders.
Is the kiosk included in the free plan?
Yes. Starter is free for one location and includes the POS and the kiosk. Paid plans add locations and other features; see the pricing page.
