Self-order kiosk
A self-order kiosk is a screen where guests browse the menu and place their own order, without waiting for a cashier or waiter.
Kiosks sit near the entrance or counter of cafés, fast-food outlets and food courts. Guests browse the menu by category, look at photos and prices, add items and send the order. Depending on how the venue works, the order goes straight to the kitchen or waits for a cashier to confirm it.
The main gains are shorter queues and fewer order mistakes, since guests pick items themselves. Staff who would take orders can make drinks or serve food instead. A kiosk also shows every item the same way each time, which a busy cashier may not.
Payment works in one of two ways: guests pay before the kitchen starts, or they order first and pay at the counter later. Older kiosks were costly fixed units; many now run on an ordinary tablet.
Example
A bakery café in Lalitpur puts a tablet on a stand by the door. During the morning rush, guests order coffee and pastries on the tablet, get a customer number, and wait for it to be called while the one cashier takes payments.
KalasOS specifics
The KalasOS kiosk runs at your venue's own subdomain, such as yourcafe.kalasos.com, on any tablet or phone with a browser. Guests choose dine-in or takeaway and get a customer number. With pay-first on, they choose cash or QR and the cashier confirms the payment before the kitchen starts. The kiosk records payments; it does not take cards.
